Herbal Fluid Extract Complex Formulations

  • The majority of our tinctures are actually herbal fluid extracts which are 3 – 5 times stronger than tinctures. Fluid extracts consist of 1 part plant to 1 part extracting liquid (typically a mixture of water and alcohol). Tinctures are 1 part plant diluted with 3 – 5 (or more) parts extracting liquid which makes them 3 to 5 times weaker than fluid extracts. What this means for you is that your dosages will be in drops instead of teaspoons (quite appreciated especially if the herb does not taste very good!). Your bottle will last 3-5 times longer but it is not 3-5 times the price of the weaker tinctures.

Herbal Fluid Extracts Single

Vibrational Medicines

  • Vibrational medicine in a herbal context refers to the vibrational energy given off from the plants. These remedies do not contain any biochemistry, just a vibrational “signature” that is transferred from the plant to water. We consume the water and receive the energy benefits.
  • All of our vibrational remedies are ordered by request, and prepared as custom orders. We use remedies from 3 systems; Bach, Wild Rose, and Australian Bush Essences.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between herbal medicine and homeopathy medicine?

Herbal medicine and homeopathy medicine are both forms of natural medicine.
Herbal medicine is the use of active ingredients from pure plant material such as roots, rhizomes, leaves, stems, flowers, berries, seeds and bark to treat a variety of medical conditions and disharmonies in the body. Herbal medicine exerts a physiological response in the body to assist healing. Herbal medicine can be taken in the form of liquid tincture (alcohol and water) extracts, water extractions (teas), powders (capsules), and a variety of topical applications including herbal oils and creams.
Homeopathic medicine is derived from plants, minerals, and sometimes animal materials. It is prepared by a dilution process where the medicinal material is diluted and then potentized (shaken) until the desired dilution is reached. The final homeopathic preparation does not contain a single molecule of the active medicinal compound and only contains the vibrational signature of the initial substance. The philosophy behind homeopathics is the stronger the dilution (the less biochemistry), the more effective the remedy.

  • Why are Finlandia’s herbal tinctures so much more effective than other tinctures?

In short our tinctures are actually fluid extracts and are 3 to 5 times stronger than most tinctures. We use mostly 1:1 fluid extracts as opposed to the more common 1:3, 1:4 and 1:5 tinctures available on the market. A 1:1 fluid extract refers to the ratio of 1 part herb (by weight) to 1 part solvent (by volume). This ratio of herb to solvent results in a concentrated medicine that is 5 times stronger than a 1:5 tincture. One ml of a 1:1 fluid extract is equivalent to taking 1gram of dried herb.

  • Why would I need a consultation with a herbalist and do I need a referral?

With a consultation, you are able to receive a customized herbal remedy/health program designed specifically for you. There is no referral needed to consult with a herbalist. You may consider a consultation if you have a health condition or query that you would like to give attention to. A consultation would include a review of your past and current health history, dietary and lifestyle practices and other possible factors related to your health issue. Our herbalists may suggest a customized herbal remedy specifically for you or may suggest supplements and/or vitamins where appropriate.

  • How do I book a herbal consultation and what are the costs?

Please call 604.733.5323 and dial extension 2 to reach the herbal department. The consultation fees are $20.00 for 15 minutes and $35.00 for ½ hour. You may also book more time for $1.25 per minute.

  • How are herbal tinctures taken?

Our common tincture dosage is 20-40 drops (1-2ml) taken 1-3 times per day in a small amount of water on an empty stomach. Dosage, however, may vary depending on the tincture, the person and the condition being treated. It is always suggested to place tincture drops in water (about 30ml or 1oz of water) first before consuming. Most of the alcohol in the tincture can be evaporated by pouring just boiled water over the dosage and then letting it cool to room temperature before consuming.

  • When can I expect to see results with my herbal medicine?

For acute conditions you may expect to see results within a number of days. Acute symptoms should start to clear almost immediately. If symptoms persist after 1 week, please consult a health care practitioner.
For chronic conditions you may expect to see gradual results over a period of time. Herbs work efficiently to rewire old patterns in the body, which takes time and persistence. It is said that for every year of chronic health condition it takes up to 1 month of herbal medicine to correct.
For both acute and chronic conditions, herbal remedies must be taken regularly as directed for best results.

  • Can I take herbal remedies with other natural supplements?

Herbal remedies and natural supplements/vitamins can usually be taken safely together. It may be necessary to take natural medicines at different times of the day for best absorption and effectiveness, so please consult a health care practitioner for advice.

  • Can I take herbal remedies with my pharmaceutical medications?

You can take your herbal remedies with your pharmaceutical medications only if they have been cross checked in our database and deemed safe together. Our pharmacy offers this service to Finlandia customers.

  • Are herbs safe for children and pets as well as adults?

Herbal medicine is one of the safest and oldest forms of medicine available. However, it is not advisable to treat yourself, your children or pets without prior knowledge in the field of herbal medicine or without consulting a herbal specialist. Children and pets have more sensitive physiological responses to herbs than adults. Some herbs are inappropriate and not safe for children, pregnant women and pets.
Please note that the organ systems of pets, and in particular cats and birds, work differently than humans. Please consult a natural veterinarian for pet and herb queries.
